Yep should be edible, I think can be used much like cultivated lemongrass in which case it is said to have quite a delicate flavour. It's quite a nice grass though, so if you don't have much I would keep it around :)

I think it is more likely to be the native O.rubens or O.radicosa, but it could be O.corniculata which is exotic

Seperated from E.involucratus by the number of bisexual florets and being an annual. Obviously the second characterisc is an easier method of assessing this so I would giving plants a gentle pull - if them come easily than E.sphaericus
