Historical data import tool now live!

Hi All,

Thanks to key support from the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust, we've been able to develop a historical data import tool to make it much easier for anybody to upload historical records into NatureMapr - previously, this was a complex task that could only be performed by our team.

You will notice a new + Import sightings link in the Add a sighting dropdown menu as well as a new My imports link in your user dropdown menu.

If you're a landholder or keen citizen scientist who has been recording your own records for years, but haven't uploaded them anywhere because it seems overwhelming, this should make things a bit easier and also ensure your efforts don't go to waste.

Please watch our how-to upload historic records video and give the new tool a try.

As we are piloting this new tool, we are very keen for your feedback as well as any suggestions for further improvements.

Cheers

Aaron.

Yay! – https://naturemapr.org/sightings/imports/status/603 – all four sightings successfully imported.

Compare to my test with these same four sightings which I extracted from my old 2023 iNat export csv file – does not work at all – here : https://naturemapr.org/sightings/imports/status/602 .

More to come in this space..

I'm now stuck waiting again as,
i have hundreds of sightings to import of plants species many of which NatureMapr does not have those species in its taxonomy .

I know well how to automate this;
and for example, provide you with a taxonomy import csv file;
and then import my sightings;
– and i would automate my new to NatureMapr taxa information dataset;
import them taxa;
then import my many sightings; in batches according to each NatureMapr region at a time,
eg. in north Qld, in greater Melb., etc. .

What gives please ?

Testing again earlier this morning.

Still issues with dates from three sightings imported earlier this morning 7:42 became 6:42 in the sightings , one remaining example : Xanthorrhoea minor subsp. lutea (Small Grass Tree)
I corrected the other two imported sightings .

Great work @JasonPStewartNMsnc2016 - thanks for this feedback mate.

I will take a look and come back to you on this.

@AaronClausen thanks. I can send the photograph original single file to you.

Perhaps NatureMapr looked at and then used this photograph's modification date or similar system date,
rather than the photograph's date taken and date digitised,
from inside the photograph's exif data, which i presume NatureMapr does check.

Yet, preferably just use the users import file row specified date and check it against the other dates,
and flag it if different in an automatic added comment private note sentence .
